God's Sovereign Will!

We hear a lot about God's sovereign will nowadays, usually as a way to suggest that something God says in His word cannot be depended on because in His sovereign will He can decide to do otherwise!

It's odd but if we were to take the same tack about our word we would be considered as untrustworthy, but people are quite prepared to malign God in this way!

But what's the true story. Will God just do other than His word because He is sovereign? How does God view the veracity of His word?

Psalms 138:2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

God exalts His Word and His Name above all else. That's what He says. Are these things He will then play fast and loose with? I think not!

Heb1:3 He (Jesus) is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

So Jesus upholds the universe by the word of His power. This sounds like if he broke His word the universe will self destruct! How can people then say that He (God) can just 'NOT DO' what He states in His word, because He is sovereign?

That just does not make practical, godly, sense from any angle!

If you think that God is a 'schemer' who says one thing and does something else or is a 'great deceiver' who set's up people to be wrong or hates certain people so would never die for them, then you are thinking of another god (invented by men) rather that the true God.

To break one's word is ungodly. That's just not our God!

Our God (Yahweh of the bible) is trustworthy.
Amen.

Best wishes for Grace and the Peace of Jesus.
