A New Covenant!
There is an old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
When the people of Israel boasted that they were good enough to do whatever
commands God gave them then God gave them the Law Covenant and said "If you
keep these you will live, if not you will die!"
And in all of history not one human, other than Jesus, has kept the Law.
If keeping the Law oneself was the only way to gain eternal life then NO
human other than Jesus would be in the Kingdom of God!
But thank God that before the foundation of the world God had a plan to make
another way - by Grace!
We can read about it in the book of Jeremiah, Chapter 31, verses 31 - 34.
Jeremiah 31:31 “The days are
coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with
the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their
ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with
the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my
law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they
teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because
they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will
remember their sins no more.”
This is the Covenant of Grace that we as Christians live under. Instead of trying
by our efforts to live by an external Law, we live by a Law written internally on
our hearts. We KNOW God, LOVE Jesus and are GUIDED by Holy Spirit. We cannot trust
ourselves to keep the Law but we can trust Holy Spirit to guide us only along God's
paths.
Because we live under this NEW Covenant but NOT the old one, we are not dominated
by sin as we were under Law, as it says in Romans 6:14...
Romans 6:14 For sin will have no
dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
And having accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and His sacrifice for our deserved
death then we are justified by God and all our sins are removed from us, past,
present and future.
Hebrews 9:12 Not with the blood of
goats and calves, but with his own blood he went into the Holy of Holies once for
all and secured our eternal redemption.
What a GOOD God we worship!
Best wishes for Grace and the Peace of Jesus.
