Jesus is/was the light of the world. This is not just a saying about his time spent on the earth 2000 years ago. From the beginning Jesus has been the light. If we go back to Genesis, Chapter 1, we see that Jesus as the spokesman for the Triune God brought everything into existence. But did you notice that when Jesus said “Let there be light!” this light did not come from the sun. Light came on Day 1 but the sun was not made until day 4! Jesus is the light of the world! His light is not just visual. It's also intellectual and emotional and spiritual enlightenment. If we look at the context of the passage above where Jesus says “I am the light of the world.” we will notice that it was immediately preceded by the incident where Pharisees brought a lady caught in adultery expecting Jesus to judge her actions. Jesus organised events such that the Pharisees did not condemn her and He did not condemn her either. He then told her to go her way and 'sin no more'. If you know anything
about the human condition then you will know that going without
committing any sins is impossible! But when someone has the gift of
"No Condemnation" they are enabled to live better lives than otherwise!
Jesus taught like this on other ocassions also. The idea was to make the people think... and realise that, on their own, they could not live a life that would please this Rabbi who loved them and rescued them, nor a life that would please God. They needed a Saviour! This light turning "on" in their heads pointed them to Jesus, the true light! The incident following Jesus' statement shows Him confronting the Pharisees and pointing out to them that He was the only one fit to judge but he was not judging anyone. His judgment when it did come would be true because it would be on the witnessing of two perfect witnesses, Jesus and the Father. As Jesus taught them about Himself only a few believed but these, like us today, had moved from darkness to the light. And Jesus said....
Here is enlightenment. If we turn to Jesus and live in His word, He will live in us to make His word real and we will know the truth (God's word is truth) and the truth (that you know and live out) will set us free.
When we understand the concept of the Kingdom of God that Jesus and Father God live IN the true believer and so the life we live is not ours but it's Jesus who lives His life in and through us, then we will be empowered to live righteously. True Christians are the
righteousness of God. Are we living in the word, our Manual, so that
we can be changed by the living word, Jesus the Christ?
JESUS IS OUR LIGHT!
Best wishes for Grace and The Peace of Jesus.
