Don't Panic!

In whatever circumstances we find ourselves as Christians God will provide the means and the power to overcome. There was a time when Jesus was asleep in a boat travelling with His disciples having told them that they were going over to the other side of the lake of Galilee. A violent storm blew up and the disciples went to Jesus and woke Him up (They took the problem to God). Then they told Him about the danger and they petitioned Him to do something about it (They prayed). Jesus then in love and mercy quieted the storm and stilled the waves (He answered their prayers). You can read the full report in Mark, chapter 4, verses 35-40.

Mark 4:37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he (Jesus) was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Most people and most Christians today would probably think of that as showing faith in Jesus in the face of overwhelming danger. They turned to God (Jesus) and put faith in Him to get them out of the situation didn't they? But what did Jesus say regarding their response to the problem?

Mark 4:40 And he (Jesus) said unto them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?

Some people say that when a storm blows over His children, God sometimes quiets the storm and sometimes He calms His child! But to say that is to miss the lesson and not see it from Jesus' point of view.

Firstly, we should not be asking the question, "Don't you care?" We should know that Jesus/God loves us and cares for us and thus have faith in him.

Secondly, having delegated the authority to us and put His Spirit in us, Jesus expects us to have His courage and and His faith and where needed to quieten the storm and still the waves ourselves. We are not to be constantly running to God for Him to do it for us. The just shall live by (Jesus' kind of) faith!

God has empowered us by His grace and Holy Spirit in us to live righteous overcoming lives NOW and to do the things that Jesus did (and even greater things) if we will believe. But over and above that we should know that God loves us and cares for us.

So when the storm comes - Don't Panic!

Best wishes for Grace and the Peace of Jesus.
Attlee.
