At The Foot Of The Cross (2)

At the time of year leading up to Easter our minds are drawn to thoughts of Jesus' death on the cross on our behalf. If we are believers we may wonder if we have the faith where if we were in the situation of His disciples whether we would be found at the foot of the cross or deserting an apparently sinking ship!

John 19:25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

At the time of Jesus' death on the cross the bible tells us of those people who were close to him which had stayed by His side.

They were -
'The disciple Jesus loved',
Mary, Jesus' mother,
His mother's sister, Salome
Mary, the wife of Cleopas
and Mary Magdalene.

It's interesting to look at these people and see how their lives were impacted by Jesus.

The second person we can look at is Jesus' mother Mary.

At the beginning of Jesus' ministry it was Mary who told the servants at the wedding in Cana to do whatever Jesus said.

Interestingly enough Jesus had previously said to her that His time was not yet. This information had to come from His Father, God, because Jesus only said what He heard from the Father, and only did what His Father showed Him to do. But shortly thereafter God gave Jesus the go-ahead to transform water into wine for the wedding because He told the servants to fill the jars with water and as they carried them to the Master of the Wedding the water became wine better than all they had drunk thus far at the wedding.

This was Jesus' first miracle and came about because His mother had an expectation to see the promise she had in Jesus come to fruition. For thirty years she had been waiting to see the fulfillment of the promises given to her regarding the Messiah, her son. And God fitted her expectations into His plans!

Mary, His mother, was there at the beginning and at the end of Jesus' ministry. We also should have the expectation of seeing God's promises which have been made to us and all believers, come to fruition and being with Jesus as He continues His ministry through His body, the Church, today. It is through Jesus that all the promises of God are 'YES' and 'AMEN'! As believers it is not we who live but Jesus who lives through us.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

For believers Jesus has come to live in us and guides us through Holy Spirit within us. With this living hope inside us, we as Jesus' disciples can show unbelievers the miracle that is Jesus and how for those who put faith in Him, everything turns out for good; in this age and in the age to come..

Best wishes for Grace and The Peace of Jesus.
